As part of a voluntary group who gathered for discussion meetings as well as offering continued comment, information and recommendations for the writing of the first Disability Access Policy in South Africa as well as being the first academic institution, nationally, to have an approved policy to specifically further the notion of Universal Design and Universal Access, Stellenbosch University is making positive and effective strides towards an inclusive educational institution, both for teaching and learning as well as in the built environment.
