The South African Astronomical Observatory employ both local and international staff with disabilities. With their Observatory site in Cape Town located on rich heritage, the SAAO requested a Universal Access Audit to be conducted at both Cape Town and at SALT in Sutherland, Northern Cape. Each site was Audited in detail and included staff interviews which resulted in the compilation of a detailed report for each site.
SAAO used the reporting to prioritize areas where interventions could be put in place to better assist staff onsite and to enhance their productivity and participation in the work place.
This project was independently undertaken during the partnership with UDAfrica, who have taken over the project to over see areas of construction.
